Books about a specific ERP software package can provide useful insights into the software functionality and technical foundations that go beyond the vendor's documentation and marketing literature. You can identify these books through a source such as Amazon.com, and the reader comments provide one indicator of a book's usefulness. It is difficult to assess the usefulness of books about Oracle, SAP, and other ERP software packages due to the lack of personal expertise and field experience. However, I have focused on the supply chain management functionality within the Microsoft Dynamics AX and NAV software packages (formerly called Microsoft Axapta and Navision), and my books include Managing Your Supply Chain using Microsoft Navision and Managing Your Supply Chain using Microsoft Dynamics AX. There are a limited number of books about the Microsoft ERP packages, but these other books do not cover SCM functionality.
