For organizations leveraging the Microsoft SharePoint platform, SAP partners have built a number of process-based software packages as part of the jointly developed platform by both software makers. Offered as SAP Duet Enterprise, the platform helps leverage highly available and easy-to-use Microsoft Office and Microsoft SharePoint applications as the user interface, allowing business users to consume SAP information as the system of record. Supported by an HTML link between SharePoint or Outlook, Duet Enterprise connects to SAP NetWeaver Gateway as the message broker to exchange information bilaterally upon request of the user.
New application uses are emerging across a variety of industries in a number of different business processes and functions, including the customer relationship management (CRM) and human resource (HR) spaces. The workforce changeover in the three years since the recession have significantly affected these function. New talent supporting sales and employee relations need strong tools to to perform well in business.

The Harmony workspace by Cordis Solutions offers a number of HR-related applications driven by Windows 8 tile launch pad. Four primary suites comprise the HR application suite of Harmony and together provide the myHR environment; these suites include myTime for time recording, myExpenses for expense recording, myCompensation for employee compensation analysis and myAppraisals for employee performance management.
Each application takes advantage of the SharePoint application environment to drive transactions, which are then recorded in their corresponding elements in SAP ERP HR and SAP Human Capital Management (HCM). Cordis Solutions won the SAP-Microsoft Partner Innovation award recently at SAPPHIRE Madrid. Additional HR providers on the Duet Enterprise platform include Tieto, CapGemini and Avanade.
Sales force automation (SFA) and customer management are common connector points for CRM integration in the Duet Enterprise platform. In this case, users can bring forward complex customer and sales information at multiple points in the sales and post-sales cycle to increase the service experience. One package that consulting partner Fujitsu offered and implemented at customer Omnicell focused on customer management.
The customer management solution allowed for bidirectional synchronization of information among SAP CRM, SharePoint and Outlook, thereby saving time and preventing human error due to multiple customer databases maintained in different systems. Fujitsu's software was awarded the SAP-Microsoft Unite Partner Innovation Award earlier this year at SAPPHIRE Orlando for its efforts to improve customer contact and activity management using its CRM solution. Other partner packages built to address CRM needs using Duet Enterprise include Logica, NNIT, OmniSys and Reply.
