SAP, IBM team up on transportation and logistics
IBM and SAP announced plans this week to collaborate on new business applications and consulting services geared towards the transportation and logistics industry. Under the new partnership, SAP will pair its software with IBM's implementation and configuration services. Modules including SAP Transportation Management, SAP Event Management, SAP Customer Relationship Management applications and SAP Billing and Revenue Innovation Management are all planned for use with the IBM services. Integrating the applications and services will result in a transportation platform that standardizes the functionality needed in that industry, according to the companies.
"In moving global freight today, the associated information is as important as the physical flow of the goods. Many freight companies are thus updating their legacy IT environments and embarking on large-scale transformational projects," said Till Dengel, SAP's vice president of industry business unit travel and transportation. "By expanding their partnership, SAP and IBM together offer deep expertise in this market and this helps ensure that our customers can successfully transform their business with state-of-the-art IT."
SyteLine tops Nucleus Research Technology Value Matrix
The SyteLine 9 ERP platform has been named to the "leader” quadrant in Nucleus Research's latest Technology Value Matrix for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). The report evaluates ERP vendors across a range of function categories, including cloud, embedded analytics, content and collaboration, mobile and migration capabilities. SyteLine 9 ERP took the top spot for its range of vertical-specific manufacturing features and broad applications that are useful across all manufacturing and distribution networks.
"From a usability perspective, SyteLine 9 introduces an innovative meshing of Infor's classic interface and SyteLine's new modern user interface. Infor is promoting the new user interface to manufacturers but is offering the capability to allow managers and principals to select the workers who will use the new UI and who will remain using the old UI," said Rebecca Wettemann, vice president of research at Nucleus Research.
SAP, Deloitte partner on financial management
SAP and Deloitte announced a collaborative effort to create customized financial management software based on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform. The companies plan to use HANA's in-memory capabilities to bring real-time visibility to processes that typically require batch processing, according to the release.
SAP has also been working with Deloitte to build a common source of information for all regulatory and managerial accounting processes. The hope is that this move will simplify customization of ERP platforms for customers across all regional and vertical markets.
"The role of the CFO and the CFO's team continues to evolve, and this new wave of innovation will allow finance professionals to access information in new ways enabled by the speed and power of SAP HANA. This will help to drive ongoing finance transformation as we see it at Deloitte," said Jan Waals, principal at Deloitte Consulting LLP and global SAP practice leader.
