Warehouse management systems handle the day-to-day operations in a warehouse, giving managers the information they need to efficiently control the movement of materials. Today’s WMSs work with such leading-edge technologies as RFID and voice recognition, and can be integrated with ERP and transportation management systems (TMSs). Adding a new WMS can present significant challenges, but it can also provide major savings in inventory, labor, and shipping, while improving customer service.
In this podcast, Steve Banker of ARC Advisory Group gives an overview of the latest WMS functions, explains the benefits and challenges of software as a service (SaaS) WMS, and offers his advice on whether to replace or upgrade an existing system.
Speaker: Steve Banker, director of supply chain management at ARC Advisory Group. Banker has written about warehouse management and the supply chain since 1996, and has been a consultant to numerous manufacturers and supply chain software vendors.
